Apple Crisp made with Honey
Ingredients:
Filling:
4 c. sliced apples
1/4 c. sugar
1/2-1 t. cinnamon
1 T. lemon juice
1/2 c. honey
Topping*:
1/2 c. flour
1/4 c. brown sugar, firmly packed
1/4 t. cinnamon
1/4 t. salt
1/4 c. unsalted butter (if using salted butter, omit adding salt)
1/4 c. chopped walnuts or pecans
Directions:
Spread apples in a shallow, glass baking dish (7 x 11" or 9 x 13"). Mix sugar and cinnamon and sprinkle ever the apples. Drizzle lemon juice over all. Pour honey evenly over the top.
Mix the flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Add the butter and work in until pea sized bits of topping form. Top your apples with this crumbly mixture. Spread evenly with nuts. Bake at 375˚ for 30-40 minutes, or until apples are tender, mixture is bubbly, and topping is crispy and brown.
Serve warm with whipped topping or ice cream for a special treat!
*You can add 2T-1/4 cup rolled oats to topping mixture if you like a chewier topping.
